Janice Marshall, 78| port city daily


WILMINGTON — Janice “Jan” Marshall, 78, died on August 13, 2022 in Wilmington, North Carolina surrounded by loved ones and pets.

Born in Mayberry, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Louis Jane Thompson and Wallace Lee Thompson.

She grew up in West Virginia and moved to Chicago with her family when she was a teenager. As a young adult, she had a homestead in Portland, Oregon, traveled to Europe, worked on a Norwegian container ship, dabbled in archeology in Egypt, and was a nanny in Greece. After meeting her husband, Simeon Curtis Marshall, they had a child, Chris Marshall, and together they started a freelance photography business on Randolph Street in downtown Chicago.

In 1995, she and her family moved to Carolina Beach, NC and soon started a florist, Marshall Gardens, which provided countless beautiful flowers and arrangements for many people and their important events. After a 20-year career in the floral and design industries, she retired to spend time with her beloved Boston Terrier Graci, tuxedo cat Paco and Siamese cat Coco, gardening and painting . She was loved by her family, friends, co-workers and customers. She is survived by her son Chris Marshall, sister Becky Langley, brother-in-law Paul Langley, nephews Steve and Sheldeen Langley and Josh Lybolt, and niece Maggie Lybolt.

The family welcomes visitors on Saturday, September 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd.
