DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn reveals how he settles differences with Peter Safran

The DC Studios era is officially upon us, with James Gunn and Peter Safran becoming the co-CEOs of the newly formed film and television imprint. The duo, who have already brought projects like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker to life, officially started work at DC Studios on Tuesday – and it looks like Gunn already has a unique approach to resolving disagreements between the two . In a recent tweet, Gunn shared a photo of him and Safran playing a game of Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots a few years earlier, and joked, “When people ask how Peter Safran and I are resolving our differences while we run DC , I tell ’em I’ll do it like we’ve always done it, like this photo from a few years ago shows.”

“We are honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we have loved since childhood,” Gunn and Safran said in a statement when the move was announced. “We look forward to collaborating with the world’s most talented writers, directors and actors to create an integrated, multi-layered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved. Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is matched only by our commitment to the wonders of human possibility that these characters represent. We look forward to enlivening the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the greatest, most beautiful, and greatest stories ever told.”

What is James Gunn’s new role at DC?

Gunn and Safran are expected to creatively and financially oversee nearly all upcoming films and shows inspired by DC’s comics over the next four years, outside of Todd Phillips’ direction joker Consequence Joker: Foil a Deux. While we’ll have to wait and see what new projects emerge over the duo’s four-year tenure, fans and even other creators in the superhero space are definitely excited for what’s to come.

“[For them]Leading DC Studios is a passion, not just a job,” said David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery during the Marvel and DC third-quarter earnings conference call. Peter is a prolific producer whose credits include DC’s highest-grossing film, aquaman, as well as the whole summon Universe, the most successful horror franchise of all time. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have her join our ranks. And I’m looking forward to what’s to come. I’ve spent a lot of time with James and Peter over the last few months, talking about our strategy and long-term plans for DC’s future in television, animation and film. They have a strong vision and blueprint that will drive a more unified creative approach. [It] will allow us to unlock the full value of one of the most recognized franchises in the world. They’re hard at work right now.”
