Favorite Things: Wildflowers

I love wildflowers, especially the bright colors of the ones that bloom during the fall.

Amber is lucky to have an uncle who is a florist. His beautiful creations were a joy to behold during her November wedding. My assistant and I both could not stop photographing them.

Wildflowers used as wedding flowers

Another of my favorite bouquets from a couple of years ago was not created by a professional florist. It was created from cuttings from the gardens of the friends and family of the bride. It contained gardenias, which are my favorite flowers. They just look so pure and elegant: exactly how most brides want to look. The minute I saw and smelled their delicate blooms, I was in love.

(At my own wedding, I used a few gardenias in my bouquet, but I couldn’t bring myself to cut very many. Instead, I purchased gardenia plants to decorate the room, then gave them as gifts to my parents. Every time I go home, I’m delighted see them flourishing in front of my parents’ house.)

The goldenrod in the photos above is also a favorite of mine. Living in the country in Mississippi, I literally grew up in the middle of a field of them. I always delighted in their bright colors, like summer’s last hurrah. Asters have also been a long-time favorite.

What flowers do you love that could be incorporated into a bouquet or table decoration to give it your own personal touch?
