Photo of the Day: Butterfly

I had a brief moment of peace and quiet today during which I was able to photograph this butterfly on one of my zinnias in the front yard.

I didn’t plant the zinnias as butterfly habitat, but they’ve turned out to be perfect for that. I’ve also seen a hummingbird and plenty of bees. The zinnias and the African daisies are just about the only things I planted this spring that are thriving in this 100 plus degree heat we’ve been having.

Somehow the light worked out perfectly for this photo. It’s full crop, captured with my beat-up old Nikon 70-300 (hopefully to be retired sometime later this year and replaced with a bright shiny 300/2.8).
